Purposes: Skin-Conditioning Agent , Bleaching , Antioxidant
Extracted from the bearberry, Arbutin is used to treat dark spots and lighten the skin by acting as a tyrosinase inhibitor. Tyrosinase is a copper-containing enzyme that catalyzed the chemical transformation of phenols and polyphenols to quinones, such as the formation of melanin from tyrosine. It is chiefly synthesized for use in the personal care industry. It is popular in sunscreens, discoloration products and skin-whitening products.
