Naturally occurring in the skin, L-Arginine acts as a moisturizing agent by supporting the barrier function of the skin. It is semi-essential as one of the principal building blocks of hair (keratin) and skin (collagen). It is cationic (has a positive charge) which makes it complex with AHAs, which can provide an extended-release type of effect in products that contain an AHA.
