This extract comes from the roots of Astragalus membrancaceus, Leguminosae. The Chinese refer to this plant as Huangqi, and it has been an important medicinal herb traditionally used to reinforce "qi," the body's life force. Research has shown that Huangqi contains many bioactive compounds such as saponins, flavonoids, and polysaccharides. It has anti-inflammatory, antiviral and antihyperglycemic properties. It is an antioxidant as well. One manufacturer of the material has shown that the extract at 2% increased the hydration, firmness and texture of skin after 14 days.
