Caprylhydroxamic Acid

Caprylhydroxamic Acid

INCI Name: Caprylhydroxamic Acid

Purposes: Chelating Agent

Caprylhydroxamic Acid is a clean preservative. It is natural and effective at a wide range of pH values. It is usually used at 0.1-0.15%. It can also be used as an emulsifier, in water-free formulas, and in surfactant systems (cleansers). It's usually dissolved in diol, propylene glycol or glycerin. It's a chelating agent as well, which are molecules that negate the activity of heavy metal ions in a solution. Additionally, CHA acts as a biostatic and fungistatic agent.

It is often coupled with antimicrobial glycols to create a "preservative free" preservation system.
