Carbomer can refer to a variety of thickening agents that control the viscosity of formulations. Most take the form of some modified polyacrylic acid. They can give rise to flowing solutions or thick gels. They absorb many times their mass in water efficiently (up to a thousand times). Carbomer polymer is usually stabilized with bases such as sodium or potassium hydroxide, and offer a non-sticky quality to formulations.
