Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid

INCI Name: Hyaluronic Acid

Purposes: Humectant , Moisturizing , Skin-Conditioning Agent

Hyaluronic acid is a very common ingredient that is used in a variety of ways. This is because hyaluronic acid can be sourced in a variety of molecular weights. Polymers can, ideally, continue indefinitely like a crystal structure. However, when products use a combination of low, medium, and high molecular weight hyaluronic acid salts, a range of skin-penetration becomes available - smaller molecules invariably passing deeper into the skin than larger ones.

Hyaluronic acid is essentially a sugar that can be found naturally in the body. It’s a principal component of the extracellular matrix or the liquid between individual skin cells. Adults can have up to 0.02% of their body mass be in hyaluronic acid, though most of it is in the skin.

High molecular weight hyaluronic acid is very hygroscopic - it can absorb over 1,000 times its weight in water. Additionally, it helps maintain the skin's elasticity, reduces inflammation, plumps the skin and of course, maintains hydration.
