Rosa Canina fruit oil comes from the Dog Rose, Rosa canina L., Rosaceae. The oil really comes from the seeds, thus why it is called Rosehip seed oil. It is rich in omega fatty acids such as linoleic, linolenic, and oleic acids. These acids are important components of the extracellular matrix, the substances between skin cells.
Rosehip seed oil has antioxidant properties that are often mistakenly assumed to be from vitamin C. The antioxidants in Rosehip seed oil likely come from the oil-soluble tocopherols (vitamin E) and carotenoids (pro-vitamin A).
