Table salt is used in formulations as a bulking agent, masking agent, and viscosity controller. It can also be used to change the shape of fatty-acid-composed micelles. This works by the ions themselves nestling in between individual molecules to influence the meta-structure of the surfactant-solvent environment. This can affect the texture and cleansing properties of soap or synthetic detergent systems.
