Tromethamine

Purposes: Buffering , Masking

Tromethamine, otherwise known as THAM, is an organic amine proton acceptor. It is used as a component of buffer solutions, which help formulations resist changes in pH. It is also used in the preparation of surfactants and pharmaceuticals, as an emulsifying agent for mineral or paraffin wax emulsions, in polishes and cleaning solutions.

This chelating agent is particularly useful against copper and iron - which can prove troublesome for formulations.
